From theory to praxis
From theory to praxis
My engagement work brings research into dialogue with institutions and professional communities, translating academic knowledge into frameworks and tools for understanding complexity, anticipating change and supporting long-term decision-making.
I work particularly on strategic foresight, anticipatory governance and institutional capacity-building, connecting the analysis of political and societal transformations with the practical challenges faced by organisations and public institutions.
Research · Foresight · Institutional Capacity · Decision-making
Since 2023, I have served as Director of Research and member of the Board of Fondazione IIF – Italian Institute for the Future.
My work focuses on the development and coordination of research, foresight and training activities, particularly at the intersection between long-term thinking and institutional decision-making.
Through IIF, I contribute to research projects, institutional partnerships and capacity-building programmes designed to help organisations understand emerging transformations, explore alternative futures and strengthen their anticipatory capabilities.
As part of EsserePA – Accademia del Valore, I contributed to the programme Abitare la complessità, promoted by the Italian Department of Public Administration in collaboration with ItaliaCamp and Fondazione IIF.
The programme brings futures thinking into the Public Administration, helping public officials and managers navigate complexity, identify long-term transformations and use anticipatory approaches to support public action.
Between 2025 and 2026, I contributed to nine editions of the programme, delivering 72 hours of training to approximately 360 public-sector professionals from across the Italian Public Administration, including central ministries, local authorities, the judicial administration and other public bodies.
The experience provided a particularly valuable setting in which to connect concepts and methods from Futures Studies with the concrete challenges faced by public institutions, from managing uncertainty and systemic change to strengthening their capacity for long-term and anticipatory decision-making.

As part of Fondazione IIF’s Futures Literacy activities, I co-designed and taught “Futures Studies for Culture”, a digital learning programme developed for Dicolab – Cultura al digitale, the training initiative of the Italian Ministry of Culture – Digital Library and the Fondazione Scuola nazionale del patrimonio e delle attività culturali, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
Designed particularly for public officials and managers working in the cultural sector, the programme brings Futures Studies and futures literacy into the field of cultural heritage, providing tools to identify long-term transformations, analyse megatrends and integrate anticipatory thinking into strategic planning. Its broader audience also includes professionals and organisations across the Italian cultural ecosystem.
My contribution focused on methodologies for trend and megatrend analysis, horizon scanning and Delphi methods, as well as on the application of the European Commission’s Megatrends Assessment Tool to explore the implications of long-term change for cultural policy and heritage.
